Crawl space remediation and cleanup

For crawl spaces, especially with mold problems, we are able to soda blast to renew the underside of your home. Soda blasting is the process we use to clean the flooring joists and underside of your sub floor. Baking soda kills the mold when it is blasted onto the wood or concrete block surfaces. It also absorbs and eliminates odors (just like in your refrigerator), and peels the top layer (about 1/16th of an inch) of the wood off to make it look clean. This process also destroys the mold spores which are embedded in the outer pores of the wood! Strapping, wiring, copper or ductwork are not a problem. Soda blasting does no harm to them, while it is able to clean behind them. After soda blasting we dust the space and then apply an anti-fungal product. Sometimes, if you have really wet crawl space other solutions can be applied, such as an antimicrobial embedded coating on the wood surfaces, a dehumidifier, and or sump pump. We always finish with a new seamless vapor barrier.

Here are some pictures of another crawl space which had been highly contaminated. We cleaned and soda blasted this crawl space (notice how clean the flooring joists look). We replaced the insulation with new, and then installed a seamless vapor barrier. This vapor barrier goes up the side wall to the house base plate. We sealed up the house outside vents for the crawl space, thereby creating a clean space under this house. We installed the following two items: an industrial fan on a timer (circulation), and industrial thermostatically controlled automatic dehumidifier. The owner of this residence is now controlling the environment under his house. This will provide peace of mind as well as longevity to the house, added protection from mold and bacteria due to moisture, and safe air quality.
